Your Passport to a Job in America

To get a job in the U.S., you have to Americanize your resume.

Your dream of getting a job in the U.S. could be ended by a common mistake: not Americanizing your resume.

Indians typically include things on their resumes that American recruiters don’t want to see, and may even find off-putting. It’s important, therefore, to customize your resume to meet the requirements and style expected by an American recruiter.

Here are some tips on how to do that:

Limit personal details:
The typical Indian resume includes too many personal details, which are best left out when applying to the U.S. Your marital status, number of children, religion and father’s profession are superfluous.

These details have no bearing on your ability to do a job, and instead make your resume look dense, and could be uncomfortable for the person reviewing it.

Stick to basics like your name and contact details.

Focus on accomplishments: While many Indian recruiters first look up your academic qualifications, American recruiters typically care more about your work experience, and how interested you are in the job you’re applying for.

So, for an American resume, mention your educational qualifications at the end, says Pujya Jennifer Pascal, a career counselor at O.P. Jindal Global University, in the north Indian state of Haryana.

Start instead with your area of interest or expertise, followed with the skills you have for the job, and then list your work experience.

If you have worked for many years in one particular field, you can start with your work experience.

Use numbers to show what you’ve accomplished in your previous jobs, says Ashley Chiampo, founder of New Global Mind, an executive coaching firm based in Gurgaon.

For instance, if you designed 10 products at your last firm, which helped increase the company’s revenue by 10%, be sure to include that, says Ms. Chiampo.

Use words that convey action like “created” and “negotiated,” she adds.

If you have just graduated, and don’t have much work experience, highlight your skills and extra-curricular activities such as leading a group project or being the captain of the college cricket team.

It can help to highlight life beyond your work and show you are a rounded individual.

If you are applying for an engineering job and mention that you are interested in fashion and design clothes in your free time, it helps show your personality, says Ms. Chiampo.

Mind your language: All resumes should be grammatically correct and free of spelling errors, but for an American resume, be sure to use American English. If you use British grammar and spellings — which Indians follow — the person going through the resume at the American company might consider it an error.

Be job-specific: American companies expect resumes to be crisp and very specific to the job you are applying for, says Sunil Goel, chief executive of Delhi recruitment firm GlobalHunt India Pvt.

If you send a generic resume to a company it shows that you haven’t spent enough time finding out about them.

Read up about the company and the job you are applying for, and use your resume to show why you are the best fit for that job.

If, for instance, you want to join an information technology company in United States as a software engineer, check the segments in which the company does most of its software development. When you write your resume, mention the skills that are most relevant to that segment first, and then list other skills.

Test your resume: Experts suggest giving your resume to a person who doesn’t know you very well. Give this person 10 seconds to look at your resume — the time a recruiter will give your resume — and ask what they remember.

If this person doesn’t immediately get your strengths and achievements, you need to rework your resume.

300 lose jobs as US firm shuts shop

HYDERABAD: About 300 employees of a US-based hardware company located in Madhapur have been rendered jobless after the company filed for bankruptcy and is all set to issue relieving letters to the staff next week.

Powerwave Technologies, a US-based multinational company located at Cyber Pearl in Madhapur, filed for bankruptcy in the USA in January this year. Now, the 300-odd employees working in the city have been intimated by the management to collect their relieving letters as the company is reportedly winding up its operations.

Employees of Powerwave, which is a listed company in NASDAQ, told TOI that they were asked to report on a particular day next week and collect their relieving letters by depositing the assets given to them by the company. "On Wednesday, we were informed that Thursday and Friday will be holidays and that the company will resume operations on Monday. However, on Thursday, I got a telephone call from our HR intimating us that I should come on Tuesday and collect my relieving letter," Ravula Thirumal, Senior Two Engineer in Powerwave, said. Similar was the case with most of the other employees. Ravula added that all the reporting heads of the company were informed that the company has decided to wind up its operations.

It was on January 29 that the bankruptcy suit was filed in Delaware State, USA, by the authorities of the MNC. Powerwave, which manufactures 2G and 3G hardware, started its operations in Hyderabad in early 2000.

Employees are worried that the company has not referred to its contractual obligations besides the payment of salary for the last 15 days. "As per the contract, the authorities of Powerwave are supposed to give a three months notice to employee besides giving three months salary while terminating the services of employees. But, when I questioned about the arrears and other contractual obligations, our HR said that they cannot make any commitment. All that they told us was to surrender the assets like laptops and other items given by the company," a reporting head of Powerwave, who requested for anonymity, told TOI.

When contacted, Rakesh Sinha, country head of Powerwave, told TOI that so far no one has been told to collect their relieving letters. "As of now the company is operational. So far we have not asked anyone to collect their relieving letters," Sinha said.

Guidelines About Industry Oriented Mini Project

The objective of this document is to present the general guidelines for the writing up of a proper mini-project report.

All JNTU B-Tech III-II have to do a industry oriented mini project which is implemented by JNTU from R05 batch.

We were very confused as to what we had to do as this was only a mini project on whether we have to go to industry, scope of project etc.But as in most colleges we were given choice to a study project or kit based and this could be done in an Institute,Industry or own. Most of chose to do a study project and were given permission for this and we had to submit this report as soon as IV/I starts and had to work on project in III/II break. This project will be evaluated during IV/II (Along with the Final or Main Project).

Basically in this mini project student can take up any Industry oriented application in his/her field of interest in their respective field/branch.First one has to submit an Abstract of the project to their concerned department head (HOD) and once he approves it ,he will assign a project guide to the individual or batch after this project work is to be started. Generally batch for a mini project may have 1 to 3 members in it.

Impotant Points:

1. There is no page limit only thing to be considered is that concept is complete.
2. One must acquire all data and concepts related to one's project.
3. The Format Guidelines given by respective Dept.heads for report layout.
4. Project should have good idustry oriented applications.
5.The industry oriented mini project shall be submitted in report form and should be presented before the committee, which shall evaluate for 50 marks.
The committee consists of an external examiner, head of the department, the supervisor of mini project and senior faculty member of the department.
6.There shall be no internal marks for industry oriented mini project.

The below info will give you the complete and detailed description of the mini projects reports.

It is essential that you produce a clear and concise report that reflects the literature survey, problem identification, project aims and objectives, the engineering design work carried out, tests performed and discussion of results. The emphasis should not be on the length of the report, but rather on the way by which the above aspects are presented In this context, you should avoid downloading bulk text and images from books or the Internet or use unconventional fonts or graphics with a view to impressing the reader You should rather show the reader that you have understood the problem at hand and used an engineering approach to produce a working solution by working as a team with your group members. You should also be able to explain the working principle and design of each stage of the developed system.Reviews will be conducted by your college in order to know the progress of your project work( 2 to 3 reviews will be taken generally).

REPORT FORMAT :

With the format given below, the mini-project report should normally not exceed 30 pages(excluding the appendix), and should not be shorter than 20 pages.

Font and Size :

• For Chapter Numbers and Titles: Times New Roman Size 18, Bold, Centered, Upper-Case.
• Sections Numbers and Titles: Times New Roman Size 14, Bold, Left aligned • Sub-section Numbers and Titles: Times New Roman Size 12, Bold, Left aligned • For the main text: Times New Roman Size 12, Justified.

NOTE :

• Do NOT put the Chapter Number and Title on a separate Page.
• If there are less than four lines remaining at the bottom of the page, start the new section or subsection on the following page.

Paragraphs and Line Spacing :

1.5 throughout. Leave a blank space from one paragraph to another.

Margins :

Top, Bottom, Right: 25mm; Right: 30mm.

Headers/ Footers :

Times New Roman Size 10.

Equations :

Should be edited with Microsoft Equation, and should be numbered in ascending order in each chapter:

E.g:

is the first Equation in Chapter 2.

Page Numbers :

Start with Page 1 at the beginning of Chapter 1. Page numbers should be centered at the bottom of the page.

Figures and tables :

• Position Figures and Tables as close as possible to the text where they are referred.
• Figures and Tables should be numbered in ascending order for each chapter, using the same sequence as for Equations.
• The number of the figure, and its caption should be typed immediately below it in Times New Roman Size 12.
• The number of the table and its caption should be typed immediately above it in Times New Roman Size 12.

TITLE PAGE : The title page should include the following information:

• Mini-Project Title
• Student Names and ID Nos.
• A statement that the report is submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Practical Training of the B.Eng. (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

All the best to all B.Techs.

Internships mandatory for all engineering students

The All India Council for Technical Education has made it mandatory for all engineering students to undergo internships to up employability levels. AICTE chairman SS Mantha said the initiative was part of the national employability enhancement mission (NEEM).

At the regional workshop on 'AICTE-CII Survey of Industry-Linked Technical Institutes 2013' on Friday, Mantha said the idea of NEEM was "not to create jobs, but to improve employability". Students in the fifth, sixth and seventh semesters will have to do an internship for anything from three to 24 months. The AICTE is coming up with a plan to register external agencies who can liaise with industry to get internships for students. The registration process will begin in mid-June. "There will be no guarantee for jobs, but students will become employable," he added.

AICTE has also signed a memorandum of understanding with BSNL to train third and fourth year engineering students in communication and related fields at 43 training centres across the country. The AICTE will pay for the training to the colleges, which will direct the funds to BSNL. "BSNL has some of the best training centres with world class equipment," Mantha said. The students will undergo 400 hours of training at the centres. Similar collaborations are being worked out in other disciplines of engineering with micro, small and medium enterprises, Mantha said.

Another initiative, also under NEEM, to reward and challenge students with potential is the 'Student Innovation Promotion Scheme'. Four regional-level workshops will be conducted, and 10,000 to 15,000 students will be invited to one of them, to work on projects on the spot. MSMEs will be asked to evaluate the project and selected students will be pushed to the next level of design or technology.

The AICTE also plans to start a placement portal to link students with industry. Students will be able to upload their biodata in a set format, and industry will be able to search for applicants that meet their requirements. A research portal where all projects by UG and PG students will be put up is also being planned. Both portals will have links on the AICTE website.

Monitoring Router or Other Devices using Simple check with Ping (ICMP) in Zabbix

Monitoring Router or Other Devices using Simple check with Ping (ICMP) in Zabbix

For ICMP check Zabbix required different utility for Ping (ICMP echo  ) that is fping. To support Zabbix to simple check you have to first install fping and set the location for fping

fping :- fping is a ping-like program which can determine the accessibility of multiple hosts using ICMP echo requests. fping is designed for parallelized monitoring of large numbers of systems, and is developed with ease of use in scripting in mind.

Install fping :-

You can install fping with following command :-

# yum install fping

Or You can install it by tarbell file

Download find from http://fping.sourceforge.net/

# tar -zxvf fping.tar.gz
# cd fping-2.4b2_to/
# ./configure
# make
# make check
# checkinstall
OR
# make install

Note:- Zabbix server must know where to find fping and be able to execute it.

First check the correct path of fping and then modify zabbix_server.conf file for correct path

# whereis fping
fping: /usr/local/sbin/fping

Now give necessary permission
# ls -l /usr/local/sbin/fping
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 48903 Jun  2 11:01 /usr/local/sbin/fping
# chgrp zabbix /usr/local/sbin/fping
# ls -l /usr/local/sbin/fping
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root zabbix 48903 Jun  2 11:01 /usr/local/sbin/fping
# chmod 4710 /usr/local/sbin/fping
# ls -l /usr/local/sbin/fping
-rws--x--- 1 root zabbix 48903 Jun  2 11:01 /usr/local/sbin/fping

# vi /etc/zabbix/zabbix_server.conf

FpingLocation=/usr/local/sbin/fping

Now restart zabbix server service for changes take effect .

# service zabbix_server restart
Now Zabbix is ready for simple icmp check.

Now open http://ip-address/zabbix and Login to Zabbix as admin

If you have not already added host add it first before creating item

Crate New Host for Router.

To crate new host go to configuration | Hosts and Select Create Host. In New host form type the host name of Router. Basically Router and switch are SNMP supported devices so select SNMP Devices in Group field. Then type the IP Address of Router and then Save the host.

Now we have added Router to our Zabbix monitoring software but it not knowing what to check so for that we have to create item to know Zabbix what to check and using which method. We can be monitor Router using SNMP or by simply sending ping request.

For now we check our router is live or not using simple check.

So click Item next to Route we just added and then click Crate Item. In Crate Item new form Host is already selected as your router. In description box type the description for the test. For example  Network Reachability using ping . In Type drop down box select Simple Check . In key box type icmpping. In type of information drop down menu select Numeric (float). In Units box type ms . In update interval (in Sec) change it to 60 and show value drop down menu select host status and save the item by clicking Save.

Now we have created test to check network reachability of router. Now we want zabbix have to send a mail if router is unreachable for that we have to create trigger and action. Because we have already configured action for trigger; we have to crate trigger for newly created item. So for that click on trigger next to Router we have added and click Create Trigger . In new Trigger form type the identical information that sense as what is wrong
Type that in Name field. For, example Router is down or unreachable.
In expression field click add this will open new page for condition. Click Select next to item box and then select item we just created Network Reachability using ping and then click insert and then click save.

Now when ever our router get down or unreachable Zabbix will send mail saying that Router is down or unreachable.

Step by step installing Clonezilla Server (Alternative to Symantec Ghost Server) on Ubuntu

Step by step installing Clonezilla (Alternative to Symantec Ghost Server) on Ubuntu

Clonezilla Server is used to clone many computers simultaneously across a network this is done using DRBL (Diskless Remote Boot Loader)  Server and computer that can boot from network.  DRBL required at list two LAN card so if your system not having two physical LAN card you can use network alias to fulfill requirement of DRBL. due to my system also not having two physical LAN card I am using alias eth0:0 and physical LAN Card eth0
(Note:- you have to make changes as per your network setup )

Configure network:-
$ sudo vi /etc/network/interfaces
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static

In the system, there are 3 modes for diskless linux services:
[0] Full DRBL mode, every client has its own NFS based /etc and /var.
[1] DRBL SSI (Single system image) mode, every client uses tmpfs based /etc and /var. In this mode, the loading and necessary disk space of server will be lighter. NOTE! (a) The client machine memory is recommended at least 256 MB. (b) The setting and config files of client will not be saved to the DRBL server! They are just used once and will vanish after the machine shutdowns! Besides, if you modify any file in the template client (located in /tftpboot/nodes), you have to run /opt/drbl/sbin/gen_ssi_files to create the template tarball in /tftpboot/node_root/drbl_ssi/. (c) If you want to provide some file to overwrite the setting in the template tarball when client boots, check /tftpboot/node_root/drbl_ssi/clients/00_README for more details.
[2] I do NOT want to provide diskless Linux service to client.
Which mode do you prefer ?

[1] Clonezilla box mode, every client uses tmpfs based /etc and /var. In this mode, the loading and necessary disk space of server will be lighter than that in Full Clonezilla mode. Note! In Clonezilla box mode, the setting and config files of client will not be saved to the DRBL server! They just use once and will vanish after the machine shutdowns!
[2] I do NOT want clonezilla.
Which mode do you prefer ?

1

When using clonezilla, which directory in this server you want to store the saved image (Please use absolute path, and do NOT assign it under /mnt/, /media/ or /tmp/) ?
[/home/partimag]

/home/partimag
Do you want to set the pxelinux password for clients so that when client boots, a password must be entered to startup (For better security)
n
Do you want to set the boot prompt for clients ?
n
Do you want to use graphic background for PXE menu when client boots ?
Note! If you use graphical PXELinux menu, however client fails to boot, you can switch to text mode by running “/opt/drbl/sbin/switch-pxe-bg-mode -m text”.
y
Do you want to let DRBL server as a NAT server ? If not, your DRBL client will NOT be able to access Internet.
N
We are now ready to deploy the files to system!
Do you want to continue ?
Warning! If you go on, your firewall rules will be overwritten during the setup!
The original rules will be backuped as iptables.drblsave in system config directory (/etc/sysconfig or /etc/default).
y

Start the Clonezilla server

$ sudo /opt/drbl/sbin/dcs
do you want to set the mode for all the clients or just some of them? Select mode: windows
select all select all the clients.

In next switch mode windows select Clonezilla-start

In next windows select Beginner

On next window select “select-in-client” so you can choose to backup or restore an image on a client by client basis.

On the last two windows you should select the default values provided.

That’s it. Clonezilla is ready to go only because we have not install DHCP server and want to use our existing windows DHCP server we have to configure dhcp server to work with clonezilla

Configure Windows DHCP Server for Clonezilla:-
Configure the option 066 for boot server name for ip address of Clonezilla server.
and Configure option 067 for boot file name as pxelinux.0
Now go to client and set client system to boot from network . after first boot set to network client will boot from network and you will see boot menu like this:

More:-

Next time we will see how to capture image and how to restore by using clonezilla.

Clonezilla Imaging software for backup and restore partition from network

To do life easier we want to find a simple path that accomplish our task with in few time and little hard work. This will apply to every where in life. And system administrator is not the exception for that he also want to do his job with easier or reduce the time from to do his task.  For that he always try to find a software or create script that automate the task that are required.

For example to setup system for user he required to OS suppose windows XP or Windows 7 or Linux and the installed other software’s and configure setting for that system that take at least 30 to 50 Min to system get up. And what if he want to setup more than 1 system suppose 30 system for that if he do his task as single system then it may be his entire day will pass to setup all 30 system and if  there are other task he have no time to complete  that so for smarter work he should go for automated task. For example he can go for network installation of OS using answer file but till he have to install other software and configure setting to each system this will defiantly reduce some time but till he do not have a time to do other pending task that are waiting for him. For so he should go for ghost (imaging software) that dump the same setting and software to other system this will reduce the his time frame and he will got time to see other task that are waiting for him. There are many software imaging and restoring partition.

  1. Symantec Corporate Ghost
  2. Acronis True Image
  3. Ping not a Ghost
  4. Clonezilla
  5. and many more

within that Symantec Corporate Ghost and  Acronis True Image required licensing menace to use them you have to pay but Ping Not a Ghost and Clonezilla are open source software and freely available to use . These all support network boot.

In corporate Symantec Corporate Ghost and CloneZilla are most popular imaging software for network. So why not go for Clonezilla, if it done our job and it free :-)  and giving almost fetchers like multitasking and like that Symantec Ghost support.
